Colonics, the nays

Long, long ago, on a television set far, far away, I once watched a
talk show. Among the various guests was a Satanist, an arrogant sort like
many of his breed. When challenged by a lady who shared the stage with him,
he asked her, "Do you know what makes one an expert?" And when she could not
answer his question, he said, "Credentials".

There's a huge difference between an alternative medical practitioner
with a doctorate in biochemistry and one with a GED because he couldn't stay
awake in Health Class. There's a huge difference between a doctor with a
medical degree from Duke University and a doctor with a degree from some
Central American off-shore island which requires a Spanish-American
dictionary in order to translate it.

On the subject of debate of any kind, one of my favorite sayings
comes from the father of the comedian Chris Rock, "I never learned a thing
from a man I agreed with."

Alternatively there is one thing I am convinced of, and that is that
the more strident and defensive anyone sounds when arguing their position on
any given subject, the less I trust anything they have to say. Or, to quote
Mark Twain, "If you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the one that yells the
loudest is the one you hit."
