As an aside, I have, for myself, credited this saying to Robert Heinlein.
He said it in an interview with J. Neil Schulman.  I have it posted on my
cubicle wall at work and it has helped me get through more than one
frustrating day. ;)

Anyone out there with an interest in phrases want to tell me the first
recorded instance of this quote for real? (I honestly don't know, but would
be interested to properly credit the source.)
