I have not had a TV since I graduated from college in 1961. My
children grew up without a TV in the house and my grandchildren are also
TV-less and loving it. My grandchildren read, the two older ones (11 & 12)
at a college level, or what passes for college these days. My 7 year old
grandson is teaching himself to read at his own pace, speaks several
languages and has an excellent imagination. The other two are too young to
judge yet. Josh, the 7 year old, has been helping teach English to a group
of Romanians in Romania.
I think TV is a plug-in-drug, suitable for people who don't or can't
do anything more active. I read constantly, work out, and generally have a
good life without TV. I do not have religious objections to TV, just would
rather do other things.
