I had problems, too! I preordered both books (at the same time) and about a week after I knew "lgd" was supposed to be on the shelves I went into the store and picked it up... off of the shelf. I told them at the desk that I had preordered it, but that noone had called me when it came in, and I also said that I had another book preordered with them. They checked and sure enough they had "lgd" behind the counter for me. However, someone had put a note on it saying to hold it until "Talyn" came in!?!?! I told the clerk that it made no sense to hold it because "Talyn" was not scheduled for release until August. I did, however, make sure that I told the clerk that even though I was taking the one book now... yes, I do still want the other book. (At that point I figured you can not be too careful!!!) Gotta love places that take that order literally. TALYN will be on the shelves on the first (or thereabouts, depending on individual stores and when they get their copies in), and LGD is on the shelves now, and I'm going quietly nuts. No way of knowing how either book is doing or will do for months yet. This is one of those times where silence is NOT golden. And meanwhile, I'm putting together a proposal for Onyx, and still have About 200,000 words of HAWKSPAR to edit in first draft -- that book is taking me forever to finish. I know it's an emotional/identity thing because I'm a horse breeder and trainer - but also because those elements are so often so poorly done and you did them so well - almost anyone can nail the big stuff with a little research, but there are so few that get the nuances right enough with horseman/breeder stuff that it doesn't throw me out of the story. Also with Fire in the Mist. - not just the horses, but all the animals. The other thing I especially like is how you manage to make the magic such a natural part of the flow of the story. I can't define the difference of how you do it, - maybe something about how accepting the characters are of it. So many authors try to explain it to the reader but it seems that when it's something that the characters have been living with all their lives, it's hard to do smoothly. I've missed some of your more recent stuff - my dad got me addicted to Alex Cross last year - but I read the three chapters of Last Girl Dancing last night - Wow! ... LOL ... It got bumped to the top of the list. We make a weekly trek to the mall for live crickets for the gecko and the book store is next door to the pet store, so I'll be able to pick it up on Tuesday. I think if I'd had it in my hands last night I wouldn't have put it down until I hit the back cover. anyway - enough fan-gurling , hopefully the stammering doesn't come through on the email.!
